The co-headlining tour by Queens Of The Stone Age and Nine Inch Nails seems like a very savvy business idea. Take two bands with very different sounds but enough crossover in their large respective fan bases and mix up the order of opener and headliner at random. With festivals in Australia in a very precarious position it is fair to say that this concept would be watched closely by both punters and business types with any interest in touring bands Down Under.  Read more…

They have a reputation as a good time live band and tonight was my first chance to see them at a smaller indoor venue after catching them for a couple of festival sets over the years. My previous impressions had been that they were a good live act that were not necessarily suited to a huge stage and small crowd at midday on the Big Day Out bill. I was really hoping that the chance to witness their “partycore” action in a club would be more akin to seeing them in their natural environment. Read more…

Say we couldn’t tell the difference between the feeling and the sound,”

Punk and its entire bastard offspring is often about much more than music. For those that choose it, punk can be a lifestyle, a movement, a community, and an ethos. There are certain bands that embody this essence and live it fulltime. I believe a good punk/hardcore band has something to say and is not going to be kept from saying it, but a truly transcendent one lives not only by their words but also through their actions. La Dispute are such an act… Read more
